College Graduate Learns the Value of Car Donation

Uncategorized, Vehicle Donations No Comments »

I just recently graduated from college and I’m moving to a new city to start my career. Its been a bittersweet transition so far and one of the most unexpected yet hardest things that I’ve had to do is donate my car. I’ve had the same car since I started driving in high school and we’ve been through it all so needless to say parting ways with my battered baby wasn’t easy. So I called around and went online looking for charities in my area that accepted car donations and put the donated vehicles to good use. First, all I could find was about a million and one junkyards and I briefly considered selling my car but then I found charity dispatch. The website was pretty cool and easy to read , so I decided to call the number and the top of the page and get the vehicle donation process started.

It was super easy, the entire thing took maybe five minutes, they ask you a series of questions about the car and your contact information and that’s it, all that’s left to do is wait for a call from the tow company. When they called and we scheduled a time I felt good about my decision to donate my car. That is until the driver arrived and I started crying when I handed him the title (embarrassing I know!), oh how I loved that car. It was such a big part of my life but now it can be a big part of someone else’s life and hopefully be of good use to them. Now enough about my emotional car moments back to vehicle donation, the process is quick, easy and relatively painless so give it try. Oh and I forgot to mention you also get a tax deduction…sweet!

The deadline for filing taxes is almost here. Many people can find this time of year somewhat stressful with thoughts of owing the government and wondering if they will be able to take any deductions. A car donation will allow you to take an automatic deduction of at least $500. Unfortunately the deadline for being able to get a tax deduction for your donated car has passed you can still donate your car and be able to use it as a deduction on your taxes next year.

More important than the deduction that donating your car will yield is the donation itself, many charities such as Goodwill and Red Cross depend heavily on donations to fund and sustain a number of their programs. Donating a car to your local Goodwill can have a lasting impact on members of your community. Vehicles that are in running condition are sometimes used in the wheels to work program which provides people in need with transportation to get work and take care of their families. The proceeds from vehicles that aren’t running are put towards programs that give disabled and disadvantaged individuals the necessary skills and training to join the workforce. Goodwill partners with different local businesses that give these people a chance to hone their skills and gain real world experience.

Donated cars do a lot for Red Cross as well. When you donate your car to your local chapter it goes toward a multitude of different projects. The most common and important is emergency relief services however; different chapters have specific programs unique to their division like the Red Cross house in Philadelphia which gives families displaced by natural disaster a temporary home. Whatever the program and no matter the division your car donation will do both the charity you give your vehicle to a world of good.

Tragic Earthquakes Spur Car Donations

Vehicle Donations No Comments »

It has been more than two months since the devastating earthquake left parts of Haiti in ruins. However, many people have not forgotten and are still requesting that their vehicle donation be put towards helping the quake ravaged nation. People are also deciding to donate a car to earthquake recovery efforts in Chile which experienced heavy damage as well.

Goodwill and the American Red Cross are thrilled to receive such an outpouring of support towards nations that deeply need it. While donating a car may not seem like a big help but it truly is a wonderful act of kindness and it goes a long way. Tragedies are never welcome events however; they have a way of bringing out the best parts of our humanity devastating events motivate us to give more of ourselves and do more for others in whatever way we can. At a time when making ends meet in this country has never been harder the recent earthquakes in multiple countries such as Haiti, Chile, Turkey and even smaller scale quakes in the U.S. have helped to give a new perspective.

While it may not be possible for everyone to give money and time to help those in need, donating your old, unwanted or no longer running vehicle is definitely an option. No matter the condition every car donation helps a charity give aid to those who are suffering at the hands of events far beyond their control. It is an easy yet powerful act of kindness that allows you to take something that’s no longer useful to you and put it towards helping someone else.

Charities like Goodwill and Red Cross need all of the help they can get in order for them to continue to help others and car donations are a large part of making that happen.

Good Fences Make Good Neighbors As Do Car Donations

Vehicle Donations No Comments »

Good fences make good neighbors and so do good property values. So be a good neighbor and donate your old vehicle. Donate a car to charity instead of letting become a piece of lawn art that only you can appreciate. Donating a car not only clears out space for other things like lawn furniture, flowers and even a new car, it lets your neighbors breathe a sigh of relief.

They no longer have to stare at this aging piece of machinery day after day taking up space in your yard, driveway or on the street. In fact vehicles that are left on the street for too long without being driven are often ticketed and towed. This doesn’t do anyone any good and it takes money out of your pocket. By making a car donation not only can you avoid an unnecessary tow and blow to your wallet you can actually earn tax credit and the tow is absolutely free.

It doesn’t matter if the vehicle is in pristine condition or on its last leg; as long as we can get it on the tow truck you can donate your car. Your neighbors will be pleased that the vehicle is no longer around you’ll be glad to no longer worry about disapproving stares or possible fines.

Another reason to donate your car is because you’ll be helping those in need. Your donated vehicle will help those that are disadvantaged and disabled receive the job skills and training necessary to become competitive in the workplace. It can also provide your local community with resources and supplies needed during an emergency. You can even choose which charity you want to donate to. The proceeds will go towards the designated charity and help them do what they do best, helping those in need when they need it most.

A Car Donation Is Just A Call Away

This year has gotten off to a very busy start. People are donating their cars for many different reasons. There has also been an increase in the number of car donations going toward Haitian and Chilean relief efforts. One donated car can provide a number of people with the basic necessities we need to survive, it can also allow charities to make job opportunities and training available to those in need.

With a short phone call you can have a vehicle that you no longer want taken off your hands absolutely free. In fact you can actually use it as a deduction on your taxes. That same phone call also makes it possible to put resources in the hands of people who desperately need them. Be it in the form of training, rehabilitation or the vehicle itself.

Donating a car through Charity Dispatch is easy and convenient. You can pick which charity you’d like your car to be donated to and in some cases to a specific cause. Vehicles that are not running and unable to be salvaged are usually recycled which benefits the environment by keeping pollutants off the road.

Selling your car may land you immediate cash but donating your car gives you a tax break and a good feeling without the headache that comes from selling a vehicle. Plus you can help someone else at no additional cost to you.
