Donating a car in Minnesota is easy, fast and free. When you donate your car, pick-up is done quickly, often within one business day. You can donate a car, boat or RV in the state of Minnesota regardless of its condition.

When you donate a car to charity in the state of Minnesota, your car donation will allow you claim a tax deduction through the charity’s tax classification with the IRS. Donating a car directly to charity is the best way to ensure that you can claim your vehicle as a tax deduction. Besides that, donating a car directly to charity is the only way to be sure that the proceeds of the sale of your car donation go directly to the charity.

When you are ready to donate your car, boat or RV in the state of Minnesota, the quickest way to begin is to have the title. If you do not have the title to your intended vehicle donation you can apply for a replacement title. You must apply for a replacement title prior to donating your vehicle. To obtain the necessary forms you can visit the Driver and Vehicle Services page of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety website. The state of Minnesota does not require a title for any vehicles purchased before 1972, trailers that weigh less than four thousand pounds, ATVs, snowmobiles and off road vehicles. Boats that are longer than twenty feet, any boat with a motor and trailers weighing more than twenty-five hundred pounds in Minnesota require a title.

Minnesota you will need to release ownership by signing in the middle of the title on line 9. If the vehicle was or is financed the lien holder must sign the State of Minnesota Certificate of Lien Release To A Motor Vehicle form on line 2.

In order to release liability of your donated vehicle the state of Minnesota requires sellers to fill out the Seller’s Notice of Sale located at the bottom of the title. This tear-away strip must be filled out and sent in to the Department of Public Safety within 10 days of the donated vehicle’s release. It is not required by the state of Minnesota to surrender your license plates but if you prefer to you may bring them to any Minnesota Department of Public Safety branch.
